Fairy Tales

April 18, 2008 · 8 Comments

I was watching the cartoon Droopy…(yes I find it hard to function bila cartoons )…In this episode, he was a knight who killed a dragon, saved the kingdom so got to marry the fair princess. Although many girls go through the phase of wishing they were were in a fairy tale (okie some don’t snap out of this phase..which is another issue altogether)…I wouldn’t have wanted to be a princess in some of those fairy tales. I mean, it was a bit unfair for you to be offered as a reward to someone just coz they killed a dragon or defeated the kingdom’s enemies or whatever. I never really thought about it til now. Isn’t it a bit demeaning to women to be treated like an object, though they may have lived happily ever after, still doesn’t change the fact of how she got to be married in the first place.

On that note, how would you feel letting someone else choose your husband for you? I was reading a story in a magazine (I think Cosmo) about this young girl (about 22) who let Reverend Moon choose her husband for her. I mean seriously, some people get to meet their betrothed on their wedding day ama some days after. She was like she felt relieved not to have to go through the minefield that is dating. She trusted her family and church enough to believe they’d be able to choose her life partner based on what they considered to be their compatible characteristics….halalala…then again, when I consider some of the idiotic men my friends and I have suffered through, I wonder if maybe, just maybe..they have a point..think about it. You’d get married to someone who’s characteristics meld with yours..hmmm

I wonder…what makes better relationships? Being with someone who’s similar to you..so you share the same interests..ama being with someone totally different from you..so you thrive on the opposites attract scenario….hmmm
