I want to be back home…just so that I can enjoy the public holiday kesho..
Moving on to unrelated news….House of Flying Daggers.

So I have moved from my usual Bollywood and Nollywood flicks to something in the Wuxia genre.
This is one good film…you can read the synopsis here.
Its full of colour, the costumes are amazing…the action as usual is pure art. I know it was slated for falling short of other great films in this genre but I still enjoyed it.. Its perfect for a dull, grey afternoon. One of those days when you have nothing to do..or simply want to do nothing but sit down and escape from reality for a bit.
There are some things I have noticed in these movies.
- Element of suspence- You are usually left with a big fat
at the end of the movie. I mean, sometimes it seems like they just forgot to finish the movie or something. - The hair blowing in the wind- This applies to both the men and women. There is usually a fight scene where the hat or headdress is cut off/ blown off..to reveal the hair..which is amazing..long and black (I’m jealous of the hair incase you were wondering)
- The costumes..and traditions..so elaborate and usually so colourful. I love it..this is best seen in The Curse of the Golden Flower…too amazing! You can actually picture yourself there…and if you’re watching this from a big screen with good sound..I have one word…Bliss!!

- Some of the men are pretty. I mean, from a distance you can’t differentiate them from the women..coz they are so slim and graceful.

(This is Takeshi Kaneshiro and Zhang Ziyi in House of Flying Daggers)
- Why does someone have to die? I’m yet to watch a happy-ending movie. I simply can’t understand some of the deaths..like the death of the main female character Mei (Zhang Ziyi). Mei was loved by 2 men; Leo and Jin. But when Leo discovered that she had fallen for Jin, he stabs her because she was planning to run off with Jin. Then she turns around and says that she knew all along Leo would try and kill her….I mean what is that?? If you know some man is out there trying to kill you, why would you run towards him? Doesn’t make sense to me!
- The women are gorgeous. Different from the beauty of Bollywood queens though. Some of my fav actresses:
Zhang Ziyi- She was in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers, and Memoirs of a Geisha

Gong Li- Curse of the Golden Flower

I’ve realised I like wuxia films with a bit of a love story…breaks the monotony of the fighting..note: I said love story..not sex scene..there is a difference
Now off to find Hero…

Playing:
- You bring me joy- R. Kelly
- One more day- New Edition

Speaking of ‘pretty men’, I saw a person in my school today and I looked and looked and looked and, minutes later, I was still none the wiser as to whether it was a pixie-ish skinny Mrs Beckham sort of woman or a skinny guy. Even the clothes were unisex.
I stopped watching ‘Wuxia’ when I was 7. Per’aps its time to check out the new crop of stuff they have.

I Like Takeshi Kaneshiro, because his acting in House of Flying Daggers is groovy. He was a cool man in that movie, who had the interested aura of the acts.
He was pretty man!!
I Like Him!
