So Friday afternoon found me on a road trip to Ikea. I say roadtrip coz there is no Ikea in my part of the woods; the nearest one being in London. So off we went, sun was out which was lovely…drove with the sun-roof open…joy
I did learn a few things about myself though..
- I like bright colours. I do…just because I tend to dress in black, brown, and blue most days, I realised that I look good in orange . Okie let me re-phrase that to say that I look good in orange when the sun is out and when I’m happy.
- I can’t wait to move into my own house. This is not another housemate rant. I couldn’t stop drooling at the bedroom and kitchen sets….I know Ikea is dead simple, but there is something about furnishing my first house..something that is all mine. Where I don’t have to consult with anyone before buying something, or have arguments simply because I want a bright green cushion in the middle of a red and cream scheme!
- I have flashes of broodiness (ie desire to have babies)…but it is quick. This was a result of seeing the babies and children’s bedroom sets. So cute! From princess themes, to themes with cars, puppets, etc…*sigh*. Right after I go right back to being scared about being a parent…and no desire for the reality that comes with babies (waking up at random hours, putting someone else before myself, actually being responsible for someone’s life, widened hips….etc…lol)
- Now that was the good part of the trip. Towards the end I got a massive headache (probably from walking miles and miles with a shopaholic who is in denial that they are a shopaholic) which ended up as one of the worst migraines of my life! Ever! As in I felt my head was too heavy for my body, and was finding it difficult to talk, or even keep my eyes open.
Anyhu, that is the most exciting thing that happened to me all week.
Random thoughts: I did something seriously dumb…but I shall blame it on the music..I didn’t know some songs could affect me like that….maybe this is just me, but there are some songs I listen to that bring back seriously vivid memories for me. It could be anything: times spent with family, good times in the past with friends, and the worst (for me) former lovey-dovey moments. There are some songs I cannot listen to…even after 2 years have come and gone, I still get a lump in my throat, and suspicious moisture in my eyes (not tears mind you) and I find my hand itching for the “next” button. Now, where was I? Oh yes, the dumb act. I was listening to this particular playlist…and I know I shouldn’t have, but I did. I was telling myself that I liked the songs before…and I would make myself re-like them again. Needless to say it didn’t work….and I need to find a way of pad-locking my phone and laptop when the urge to do crazy stuff arises.Said dumb act led to a moody/ depressed weekend….with me spending my Sunday wrapped in my duvet. Didn’t bother to cook…or look for anything remotely edible.
Final random thought:Highlight of the weekend was watching No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I love it!Its become a permanent part of my Sunday night viewing…can’t wait for next week’s episode! I recognised one of the guest actors..A South African actress (can’t remember her name but she acts in Isindingo). One thing I wondered about…do they have any Botswanian actors in it?
Playlist:
- Don’t stop (Funkin’ for Jamaica)- Mariah Carey ft Mystikal
- Got me waiting- Heavy D and the Boyz

I’m a huge fan of IKEA. Right from their business philosophy to their range. I think their spartan approach to furniture and their play with colours kick-started my interior decoration hobby.
Simple, relatively cheaper than others…and still pleasing to the eye….amazing combo
Random thought, from what is implied, yeah, that was dumb, especially if it messed up your weekend, but just so you know, songs mess up everyone. I have this one song on repeat for ever. lol.
Lol…hopefully I’ve learnt my lesson…hopefully…as for you..remove that song!
In other news, How farest thee?
50/50……how bout yourself? wait..I shall tweet you

Ikea’s cool; flipping through their catalogues is so delightfully escapist. One starts planning their perfect bachelor pad and then one looks at the price tag on 2/3 of the items and snaps back to reality!
Its fun to dream isn’t it? What I’d do is get a fundi to reproduce what I want…would be cheaper I think

Hey Val…
Hey yourself..umelost!
the best part about IKEA for me is that you leave with your stuff and there’s no nonsense like we’ll deliver the goods for you in 6 to 8 weeks. I like that.
But there’s always a downside, it comes flat packed…why can’t we just open the box and what you buy is unleashed in its full splendor. This fixing things from flat packs has always done my head in.
I know..I hate assembling stuff…I had to assemble the boxes I got…tsk!

Two of the things I love doing the most…house shopping and decorating. I forgive your shopaholic friend.
Hey mama! Now…if only you were in the same continent..I’d have done intros….lol…

Abit of a surprise for me here. I didnt think you’d dig Mystikal & Heavy D!! Nice nice. Heard Heavy D’s “I got Nothing But Love”? Try it.
Surprise why? I shall look for the other track….

I almost wish I’d come back with an IKEA catalogue; you can def find some fundis here in Nai that will reproduce what you want from pics… but you’d have to ask around for pals to refer you to one that can deliver.
Hmm…ask someone who is coming home soon to leta one for you..
As for the assembling stuff part, I have no idea why people complain about that. I remember several years ago, my mum being shocked when I assembled my baby bro’s cot after even the fundi was stumped. I mean, not to be rude, but it’s just so… there. Like, you just see the pics and you see the pieces and you instantly see how it fits and it’s so much fun assembling it too. At least, for me.
Diff strokes for diff folks….definitely fits this one

Val….Kupotea sio kwa ubaya…
Good to see you back on the blogging scene..
You and me both hate that assembly thing…why lie. I just feel short changed about having to pay all that for the item and they don’t even have the courtersy to fix the damn thing for you. It’s a slippery slope I tell you…..don’t be surprised if one day you order a chicken roast in a restaurant and they bring you an uncooked chicken, a few spuds and some carrots and parsnips, with one of them small stoves that go on the end of a table and then they tell you – “Go ahead, cook your sh!t”…
I so agree with you! Lol @ the chicken

ikea always reminds me of martin lawrence in the Black Knight… that was a really good funny movie…
i loathe the whole big time shopping. supposedly as a chick i am supposed but that gene skipped me…
lol..I like shopping..but not for long..after 2 hours I start getting antsy

I am liking th NO.I ladies detective on Sunday nights to the extent that I have asked for me time for that hour. Surely you recognise the detective- okay hint.Check your play-list singers.Alaafu her secretary is my hero- the things she says crack me up. Kwanza her reaction when the detective said she was going to visit the dentist. I was laughing until I was crying.Okay I think you get my point- I like the show.
Lol….I’m with you there..Noni Rose rocks!
The only time I will set foot in IKEA is on a hot day and I have heard about three icecreams and I am feeling on top of the world and not anywhere near “I will murder someone feelings.” You need patience, love and time to shop in that place. But I do like the stuff they have.
And do not get me started on flat-packs!
I find it fun..the first hour..after that I want to cry..
