Trying something new at the Val camp. I’m going on a fruit/ vegetable based diet starting this evening. I’m going to try and keep it up for 3 days (apparently that is what is recommended for beginners). For me this is a bit of a diet and a bit of a detox program. I also want to try new ways of preparing fruit and vegetables. I hope it works out.
Pros
- I have to cut out alcohol…which means that during the weekend I can’t indulge in my usual bottle of wine while I relax…but oh well, this is for the greater good.
- I get to make yummy vegetable recipes. I’ve been looking up new ways of jazzing vegetables up (like by adding herbs) and fruits as well (adding a couple of nuts, coconut and honey)
- Apparently it will help my mental and physical state….remove toxins and what not.
- Help break my addiction to junk, fried foods etc.
Cons
- Irritability
- Falling sick…my stomach may go into shock from all the healthy eating
Now after reading up on the whole thing, I think I’m going to start off slow. This is my plan:
- Substitute one meal a day for the fruit and vegetables. I bought a blender today…yeii! So I’ll be using it to make smoothies and soups.
- Drink loads of water and herbal teas (my favourites being green, peppermint, and fruit ones like cranberry and raspberry)
- Eat raw vegetables…I think I will make salads, and eat them without dressing (this will be especially hard!)
- Then slowly return back to eating normal food….and find healthier ways of cooking. Hope this works..Lately I have not had the urge to cook..being surviving on pasta salad (pasta, sausage/ chicken thrown in the oven and salad leaves). I need my cooking mojo back!
Anyhu, I made a smoothie today (actually while writing this post, I got the urge to try out my new blender..so I did. Even took pictures from my phone).
Made a smoothie with apple, raspberries, strawberries, clementines and strawberry yoghurt (Yum!)

The start of the adventure….my new blender (its a juicer), the raspberries and strawberries..

Threw in some clemetine pieces for some colour…Oooh the pink bowl

Vrooooooooooom…………………The blender is one of those that has safety lock mechanisms..and for once this is one machine that did NOT give me problems…yeiii!!

Finished product…I need me one of those fancy-schmancy glasses…an ordinary water glass does this no justice…It was yummy!
So I will try and put up updates…to monitor the whole experience and all.

Nice recipe. Easy to make. Pretty finished product.
But hehe, are those wine bottles I see in the background?
Lol, there is a non-alkie bottle of rose that has been there for ages, the rest are vinegar, oil..etc

The smoothie looks yummy. Is there a memo that went out and I missed it? My nurse went out to buy a blender as well this evening.Yes, she is also on the smoothie diet.
Yes there is a memo..so how is she getting along?
All I can say is good luck with this diet. I tried it once beginning of last year and trust me – I was having a Madagascar moment i.e. my work colleagues started looking like steaks.
Lol!!! Hunger…..hunger!
Not to worry, I will bring you chicken teriyaki subway sandwich at the Royal Infirmary.
Tutaishana friends…torturing me with food is NOT allowed!

Good luck with the diet! If you’re looking for great recipes or vegetarian techniques, try a search engine like Technorati. Food blogs have become my vice.
I love food blogs as well..food sites, Jamie’s site..ok I stop now..

hehehe. am on the ’substitute one meal with a fruit’ though i don’t know how helpful my bananas are…and ‘cut down sugar’ diet. so far i’ve gone a week without sugar. it’s torture, but i feel lighter…:D Now if only i could find the psyche to exercise…
Tea bila sugar….torture! How do you do it? If I want to cut sugar I drink herbal tea…cannot drink normal chai without sugar..

What is the point of salad without the dressing?
I will attempt to find out..I saw a recipe for avocado and lemon…sounds good.
Good luck with the detox. I predict one or two tummy upsets
Thanks…and no upset so far (thankfully)
Pretty pink bowl.

Now we’re talking! Reading this I feel like I’m home making a smoothie. I make them for breakfast every other day. Throw in every fruit I can lay my hands on and blend the living daylights out of them.
Every other day? Goodness, I’m inspired now..
Include Tree Tomatoes too. They have this kataste and colour. Problem is their seeds may bother you in the beginning coz they dont kabisa blend but hey what’s a few seeds when you want to get healthy?
Tomatoes…not really a fan, unless they are surrounded by cheese or come out of a squeezy bottle
Now the vegetable salad without dressing is a bit of a problem.
I feel you gal. Let’s blend on.
Yup! Power to us!

I am not really a fan of fruit and veg….but I am cheering you and Shiko behind Tandra waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over here!! Go girls!!
Thanks!
Why don’t you just take one Activia everyday and drink a litre of water? Its still healthy…..the thought of eating raw vegetables just makes me sick……but I am still rooting for you.
Its an experiment….I already do the Activia everyday, just bumping it up a bit.

Most of the fruits look red, why then is the concoction some shade of pink? Or what is that colour?
They turned pink coz of the yoghurt I think..

Finally, you have my favouritest song on your list. Michael Buble rocks my world!!
I do listen to a couple of his songs…and I agree,,he rocketh!
All the best with the diet dear. I have never been one to go on diets, all I can say is I hope I’ll get the inspiration to finally start eating fruits and vegetables from you.
Lol…yeii! Get inspired!
