Last day of the detox…and I’m ever so glad! I don’t know how fruitarians and people who survive on the raw food diet do it. Its hard to walk past Nandos, smell the bbq chicken and walk past it to go buy vegetables… I did it though..so yeii for me! On to today’s events..
Breakfast:
The usual cup of tea, toast and smoothie. Today’s smoothie had banana, clementines, pear , pineapple juice and mango juice. It was lovely! I need to start my own range of smoothies…

Lunch:
Went and bought some vegetables, and for some reason managed to walk past Nandos unscathed. But it was torture I tell you! It was a sunny day, so there were plenty of people walking up and down, eating all manner of yummy foods that made me want to abandon the detox altogether!
Anyhu, lemme stop ranting. I made a salad with lettuce, mixed salad leaves, onion and garlic, tomato, slivers of ham, basil leaves, red pepper chunks and mushrooms. It was actually quite tasty.. (Yes I do know that dressing would have made it even more heavenly)..Cups of herbal tea with this one.

Now at some point in the afternoon, I thought it would be a good idea to get cracking on the vegetable juice. So went and cut up chunks of carrot, celery, cucumber and added pineapple juice to get it moving..

It may look alright, even appetising. But boy wasn’t it the vilest juice I have ever created. The recipe I got this from suggested fresh ginger (to give it a bit of a kick) and wasn’t I glad I didn’t add in the ginger! Managed to drink it..telling myself that it was for the greater good, and that I wasn’t pouring my money down the drain. I had to rinse my mouth after that, brush my teeth for a good couple of minutes, chew on some polos and drink some fennel tea just to remove that taste from my mouth. Yeuch!
So the remaining veg will be turned into a stir fry, put in a stew or if I’m feeling inspired, soup. No more veggie juice! (Carrot and watermelon does sound good…is watermelon in season though?)
Thoughts:
- I actually enjoyed this 3 day detox/diet thing. Most of the smoothies (except the veg one) were yum! So I will definitely be making them more often.
- Got my cooking mojo back! I think its because of trying to make vegetables look interesting without the usual dressings na kadhalika.
- Do I feel different? Psychologically yes..mentally definitely. I don’t know if I feel lighter because I think I’d have to carry on with this plan for a week…and I need chocolate back in my life!
- I don’t feel as cranky as I did jana. Does this mean my body is getting used to the new diet, ama its excited because it knows tomorrow it will get chocolate?
- Thanks for the encouragement my good peoples! Hope you were inspired to try out new things in the kitchen.
